In the face of adversity, the true measure of a community’s strength lies in the solidarity and compassion extended to those affected. At WRAHI Nigeria, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing humanitarian aid and emergency support to vulnerable populations across the country. Recently, our dedicated team, under the leadership of Executive Director Dooshima Agur, took a decisive step to bring hope and relief to victims of violent conflict in Benue State.
Responding to the Crisis in Yelwata Community
The Yelwata Community, located in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, has recently endured a devastating series of attacks attributed to Fulani militia groups. These violent incidents have resulted in significant loss of life, displacement of families, and widespread destruction of property, leaving the community in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the WRAHI Nigeria team promptly mobilized to the International Market IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) Camp in Makurdi, the state capital, where many of the displaced residents have sought refuge. This visit was not only an opportunity to assess the immediate needs on the ground but also to extend our heartfelt condolences and unwavering support to the affected families and the broader Yelwata community.
Leadership in Action: Executive Director Dooshima Agur’s Visit
Executive Director Dooshima Agur personally led the delegation, underscoring the organization’s commitment at the highest level. During the visit, the team engaged with displaced persons, community leaders, and local authorities to better understand the challenges faced by those impacted. The presence of WRAHI Nigeria at the camp served as a powerful reminder that the victims are not alone in their struggle and that concerted efforts are underway to alleviate their suffering.
Our Commitment to Sustained Support
WRAHI Nigeria’s intervention goes beyond immediate relief. We are dedicated to implementing long-term strategies that address the root causes of displacement and conflict, promote resilience, and facilitate sustainable recovery. Our approach includes psychosocial support, provision of essential supplies, advocacy for peacebuilding, and collaboration with government and non-governmental partners to ensure coordinated and effective humanitarian response.
A Call for Collective Action
The crisis in Yelwata is a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges facing many communities in Nigeria. It calls for a unified response from all stakeholders—government agencies, civil society, international organizations, and individuals—to work together in restoring peace and rebuilding lives.
At WRAHI Nigeria, we remain committed to being at the forefront of these efforts, bringing hope and tangible support to those who need it most. We invite all partners and well-wishers to join us in this mission to create a safer and more resilient Nigeria.
By standing together, we can transform despair into hope and help communities like Yelwata rebuild stronger futures.
